Attention all EUUC Committee Chairs and Board members: Mark your calendars for our annual Fall Leadership Gathering on the evening of Wednesday, September 20. Our theme this year is inclusion. Dessert & coffee follows the meeting.
Please join us for the installation ceremony of the Reverend Cecilia Kingman as our Minister for Faith and Justice! This joyous occasion will take place on Friday, September 29, at 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Edmonds, 828 Caspers Street, Edmonds. The sermon will be given by the Rev. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister of All Souls Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a multi-racial congregation of more than 2000 members with a vibrant social justice presence in Tulsa. The Rev. Jason Shelton, composer of our beloved hymn "Standing on the Side of Love," will conduct the EUUC Choir and Youth Choir.
Childcare will be provided during the service. The Installation will last approximately 90 minutes. A cake reception will follow immediately after the service. Join us for this service celebrating our new ministry!
Music plays a unique role in Unitarian Universalist communities - our songs define us and show us the path to Beloved Community. But they also challenge us at our core and encourage us to engage the hard questions that inevitably come up even in the most Beloved Communities. Come join in a time of reflection and joyful singing with Rev. Jason Shelton, UU minister and composer from Nashville, TN. All are welcome!
An informational meeting will convene after the second service on Sunday, October 1st. This will be an opportunity to update previous volunteers as well as inform new folks who wish to learn about this important service for the homeless. Our EUUC team covers cold Monday nights from November through March. Come learn how you can help. A light lunch will be provided.
Spend a day energizing your justice passions with UUs from all around the region. Listen to EUUC environmental activist Carlo Voli, Rev. Cecilia Kingman, and anti-racist activist Leslie Schmidt talk about what it can mean to be called to action. Meet with others in issue groups of your choice. Come away energized and renewed in your commitment, in comraderie with other UUs! For more information about the Summit and Friday evening / Sunday morning events, click here, or pick up a brochure in the Narthex - and please sign up on the bulletin board.
What a wonderful way to have a good time and provide a much needed service to EUUC. This event takes place Saturday and Sunday, November 4 and 5. In the past our many volunteers have always made this a successful event. Sign up sheets are waiting to be filled starting Sunday, September 24. Another way to volunteer is to look for Sign Up Genius in your e-mail. Your help is very much needed and appreciated.
The Committee on Ministry is asking members to let them know how we are living out our mission - of gathering together, nurturing the spirit, and living our vision of a just and sustainable world. We have color coded boards in the Narthex for each of the 3 parts of the vision. We'd like you to write activities we've done that enact each part of the vision on matching colored sticky notes that are near the boards. We'll do this for 3 Sundays, tally the results and let you know what we learn.
Help welcome new members to EUUC by hosting a potluck at your home. You know that good conversation around the dinner table fosters the kind of relationships we hold dear at EUUC. Just let Cyndy Norman know by email that you are interested. Or sign up in the Narthex on Sunday, September 24. Potlucks will be held in October and November.
For those who missed earlier discussions or want to continue the conversation, three titles will be repeated in October. Rachel Maxwell will host a potluck dinner and discussion of Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates at her Edmonds home on October 6. There will be two discussions at EUUC following second service: Bryan Stevenson's Just Mercy led by Ginger Alonzo on October 15 , and Trevor Noah's Born a Crime on October 29 led by Vicki Roberts-Gassler. If you have copies of these books to return or donate, please bring them to the Social Justice Desk. To register or for more information email sjrc.rsvp@euuc.org or call Kyle Gillis.
On Friday night, August 25, Hurricane Harvey made landfall as a Category 4 Storm and brought with it deadly winds and rain to an area of the United States millions call home. Much of the Texas Gulf Coast has been impacted and communities in Louisiana and across the state of Texas are still coping with more days of rain. We’re holding all of those affected in our hearts and prayers and we are in touch with local Unitarian Universalists so we can meet the needs as they arise. To do this, the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) has joined with the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) on a recovery and relief fund. Please give as generously as you are able.
Ingathering is fast approaching, so don’t forget to register your kids for our Faith Development program. Registering helps keep Faith Development running smoothly by making sure we have accurate and up to date information on important things like birthdays, allergies, and emergency contacts. You can find the form here.
