Gatherings and events

EUUC invites Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to hold weekly service in Chapman Hall

Saturday, March 25 at 11 a.m. in Chapman Hall

On September 11, 2016, EUUC held its regular Sunday service at the new Abode of Kindness Community Center in Monroe. We have invited the Ahmadiyya community to hold their service at EUUC on Saturday, March 25. It is an important day for the community as they celebrate the anniversary of their founder, Hadrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. This is known as Masih Maud Day. Following the service, we will share a joint congregational potluck lunch.

Service starts at 11 a.m. with opening welcoming remarks from Rev. Eric Kaminetzky. Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes early.

Potluck starts at 1 p.m. Bring a dish to share – main dish, salad or dessert. No pork, ham or bacon please. EUUC will provide beverages. We will label food for allergens (nuts, dairy, gluten). The men and women eat separately and EUUCers can choose to follow this tradition or not. Men will eat in the Narthex. Women will eat in Rooms 1 and 2.

Prayers (Salat) start at 1:40 p.m.

This event allows EUUC members to continue to fully live into the recently passed "Action of Immediate Witness" at the 2016 GA encouraging UU congregations to build solidarity with our our Muslim neighbors. It is important that we return the hospitality of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Please plan to attend this coming Saturday.

Special Congregational Meeting

Sunday, March 26 at 12:15 p.m. in Chapman Hall

This Sunday we will hold a special congregational meeting to vote on calling our second full time minister, Rev. Cecilia Kingman. Childcare and snacks will be provided. Please plan to attend.

Coming Soon - 46th Annual Dinner/Gala/Auction

Announcements

Social Justice Reading Circle for April

April's Social Justtice Reading Circle will be The Third Reconstruction: How a Moral Movement is Overcoming the Politics of Division and Fear, by The Reverend William Barber II. The book has been described as “a blueprint for movement building and an inspiring call to action from the twenty-first century’s most effective grassroots organizer.” A potluck dinner and book discussion led by Rachel Maxwell will be held on Friday, April 28. To register, visit the Social Justice Desk following the service. If book purchases are not part of your budget, please check at the Social Justice Desk regarding books on loan.

Thank you for supporting Days for Girls

Advocates for Women and the Music Committee are pleased to announce that we raised over $2,600 for Days for Girls, which helps keep girls in school by furnishing sustainable feminine hygiene supplies. Thanks so much to those who contributed to this important cause! We learned about the issue from April Haberman, representing the Edmonds Days for Girls Chapter, and enjoyed an amazing concert by Maracuja, a duo that serenaded us with guitar and vocal music from Latin countries around the globe.

Seabeck Organizing Committee Needs Your Help

The Seabeck Organizing Committee is beginning to plan for the 2017 outing to Seabeck, this September. A few of our group are stepping aside to make room for new people, new ideas. We need a new Registrar. We need some general help, as well. We are a congenial and mutually supportive group. We collaborate and help one another. If you love Seabeck and appreciate collaborative planning, please call Susan Cyr. Thank you.

Sunday Offering for March

The Sunday Offering for March is for Mujeres de Maiz. This cause aids the women and children in a community of Chiapas, Mexico, providing them with access to education through scholarships, literacy programs, workshops, eye exams and glasses. Its goal is to help break the cycle of poverty, build self-esteem and provide role models. The non-profit was begun 12 years ago by Judith Pasco, a UU from Sequim.

Weekly Family Email

Our Minister for Families and Faith Development, the Rev. Cecilia Kingman, sends out a weekly email update about the week's programs and other special announcements. If you have children under 18 and would like to receive this weekly message, send a note to Cecilia and include your children's names and ages, and your name and contact info.
