Gatherings and events

Getting a Just Price on Carbon Webinar

Wednesday, April 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room 1

Join us tonight, as we provide space to listen to this webinar together. We will learn about a new effort to create a carbon tax that addresses clean energy jobs and a just transition from fossil fuels, while also lowering Washington state's carbon output. This webinar is sponsored by the Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy, a coalition of some thirty environmental and social justice organizations. You can bring food for yourself, or to share. The webinar is 1-1/2 hours, and we will talk afterward about how people in our community can support this effort. Contact Gayle Leberg with questions.

Easter Egg Hunt at EUUC

Sunday, April 9 after the second service

Our annual Easter Egg Hunt will happen a little after noon, immediately following the 11:00 service. Parents, please meet us in Room 1 so that we may have a timely start to the hunt. Children up to age 12 may participate. There will be sections by age group. Join us!

Bring your books to the church - the sale starts Sunday, April 9

Drop off your contributions in the Narthex. We accept great works of literature, best sellers, children's books, mysteries, romances, travel, CDs, DVDs, and audio books.  Please, do not bring college textbooks or computer tech manuals. Also, do not bring diet books, outdated medical self-help, or gardening books. We will have signs on the wall for the donation drop-off spot. Shop anytime that you are at the church.

There are many volunteer opportunities during that week. Please visit the table in the Narthex to sign up or learn more.

Marches for Justice and Rights!

April is a busy month for marches!  We will be focusing on coordinating folk to attend the Science march and Climate march (supported by our Congregational Stand on Global Warming), but will help you with the other marches too.  Email SJactions.rsvp_at_euuc.org, tell us the march you’re interested in, and we will suggest carpool/bus locations, and provide meet-up info so that you can find each other and march together. You can also sign up at the Social Justice bulletin boards in the Narthex. Don’t forget to wear your yellow Standing on the Side of Love shirts!

  • April 15:  Black Lives Matter and Tax Day March, 2-5 p.m., Westlake Park

Announcements

Annual General Assembly Coming Soon

The Annual General Assembly for the UUA takes place June 21–25, 2017 in New Orleans. The theme this year is Resist and Rejoice! This is also a JUSTICE GA year and there is a 2 day workshop preceding GA entitled “Undoing Racism” on Tuesday, June 20 and Wednesday, June 21. This is one of the best workshops available on this critical topic and is a good reason to attend GA this year. This year's GA will include the annual Ware Lecture from award-winning author and lawyer, Bryan Stephenson. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama and the author of the critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller, Just Mercy.

Financial aid is available from the EUUC GO GA fund. See a member of your Board of Trustees for more information. Also see a Board member if you are interested in being an EUUC delegate to GA. Visit the UUA website for specific GA information.

46th Annual Auction a Great Success!

Congratulations to all those who worked on and participated in this year’s auction! Income for the Silent and Live auctions was up 28% over last year, almost $11,000 was raised through the Fund-a-Need for improving the Loft/Youth Group meeting space, and there were over 784 winning bids. It’s not too late to make a donation to the Honoree Tie for Cindy Creager or to the Fund-a-Need. Simply email auction.rsvp_at_euuc.org and let us know the amount you would like to contribute. If you would like to sign up for one of the open events, visit here.

To the good people who bring the Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Congregation to life.

The Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Congregation is proud to announce that on March 26th, 2017, the Reverend Cecilia Kingman was called as our first full-time Minister for Faith & Justice, with a 98.3% positive vote, at a duly called meeting of the Members of the Congregation, per our by-laws. And we are pleased to report that Reverend Kingman accepted the call on the same day. We look forward to many good years and new adventures in partnership with this fine minister, and expect to both reap and provide countless benefits from entering into covenant with a person of her character, stature, experience, and commitment.

Let us move forward with continuing to bring our Mission to life as we Gather Together, Nurture the Spirit, and Live Our Vision of a Just and Sustainable World.

Congratulations, and many thanks to all those who have made it possible for our community to embrace this opportunity. To see how this unfolded, go to our Facebook page.

Sincerely,
Craig S. Cyr - Board President
