Calling all EUUC members! Please attend the Start-Up Workshop on our new ministry with the Reverend Cecilia Kingman, Minister for Faith and Justice. This workshop will take place at EUUC on Saturday, May 20, from 10 a.m. to noon in Chapman Hall. Childcare will be provided for children under ten; older children and youth are encouraged to attend the workshop. This is for everyone! The main purposes of a startup workshop are:
Please join us for this very important gathering. If you have questions, please contact the EUUC Board President, Craig Cyr.
We start our summer service schedule on Sunday, May 21st. We will have one service on Sundays instead of two. All summer services start at 10 a.m.
Everyone is invited to attend our Annual Congregational Meeting where we elect members to the Board of Trustees, Canvass, Endowment and Nominating Committees, approve the 2017-2018 Budget, approve minutes of past congregational meetings, name our delegates to 2017 UUA General Assembly and hear the board president's State of the Congregation. You must be a member in order to vote, but everyone is welcome.
UU 101 is the first of two classes about Unitarian Universalism and EUUC. UU 101 and 102 are required classes for folks who wish to join our congregation, and we find they help newcomers make an informed decision about whether Unitarian Universalism and EUUC are the right fit for them. Lunch is served & childcare is available with advance notice. You can sign up online, by calling the church office, or by contacting Lynn Carpenter or Nancy Gladow.
Would you like to host a potluck to welcome newcomers to our congregation anytime from mid-July through August? A summer potluck allows the party to spill out into the garden. Or you might want to host it in a park. Your job will be to provide a main dish, coordinate the food others bring and provide a place to gather. The group will include some seasoned members as well as newcomers. Does anyone want to host a potluck at your home or in a park for families with children? Cyndy Norman will handle sign ups and give you your list of guests. You are guaranteed interesting conversation and fun. Please contact Cyndy if you are interested.
The EUUC garden is ready for planting! We welcome anyone who is interested in gardening with us. From now on until the garden is put to bed for winter, we will be meeting every Monday at 9:00 am. Bring your gardening tools and gloves and wear your gardening clothes and join us.
Please drop off feminine hygiene supplies at the Advocates for Women box in the Atrium. These will help local girls who lack these very basic essentials. Thank you for showing your appreciation of women and girls on Mother's Day!
The Annual General Assembly for the UUA takes place June 21–25, 2017 in New Orleans. The theme this year is Resist and Rejoice! This is also a Justice General Assembly year and there is a 2 day workshop preceding General Assembly entitled “Undoing Racism” on Tuesday, June 20 and Wednesday, June 21. This is one of the best workshops available on this critical topic and is a good reason to attend General Assembly this year. This year's General Assembly will include the annual Ware Lecture from award-winning author and lawyer, Bryan Stephenson. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama and the author of the critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller, Just Mercy.
Wanted: a few good people to prepare and serve coffee and tea on Sunday mornings. Pre-requisites: none. Training: On the job. Pay scale: Never ending appreciation and free coffee, tea. Days: Sundays. Hours: 2 hour shifts. Contact Christine MacDonald if you are interested in helping with this task.
This #1 New York Times Bestseller is Stevenson’s story of working as a young lawyer with the poor and wrongly condemned. Reviewer David Cole writes: “Every bit as moving as To Kill a Mockingbird, and in some ways more so . . . a searing indictment of American criminal justice and a stirring testament to the salvation that fighting for the vulnerable sometimes yields.” Discussion: Sunday, June 11, at 12:30 pm, led by Vicki Roberts-Gassler. To register email sjrc.rsvp@euuc.org or signup at the SJ bulletin board. A limited number of copies are available on loan at the Social Justice Desk.
