You are invited to join the open women's circle which meets on the second Thursday of each month. This circle is an opportunity to join with other women in mutual sharing of ourselves around topics that nourish our spirits. It is ongoing and open to both newcomers and longtime members. You are welcome to come and see if this group is right for you. If it is a good fit, please join us as a regular member of the group. For more information please contact Carol Peters or Gail Smith.
If you're new to EUUC and would like to learn more about our congregation, or how to get involved, our Newcomers' Connection Reception will be held after the service this Sunday. Grab a cup of coffee and join our membership team back in Chapman Hall for informal conversation.
Hillbilly Elegy is a #1 New York Times Bestseller. It was named by the Times as one of "6 books to help understand Trump's win." From the book's cover: "Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of poor, white Americans. The disintegration of this group, a process that has been slowly occurring now for over forty years, has been reported with growing frequency and alarm, but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside." The discussion will be led by Vicki Roberts-Gassler. To register, email sjrc.rsvp@euuc.org or sign up at the Social Justice bulletin board.
Ingathering is fast approaching, so don’t forget to register your kids for our Faith Development program. Registering helps keep Faith Development running smoothly by making sure we have accurate and up to date information on important things like birthdays, allergies, and emergency contacts. You can find the form here.
Bring your Seabeck registration form to EUUC by next Monday to register for this annual Fall getaway. The theme this year is "Friendship and Fellowship". Deadline to register at regular rates is next Monday, August 14. Bring your completed form to the EUUC office.
Do you get satisfaction from helping others? If so, please consider volunteering as a camp host for EUUC’s Car Camp. Our hosts work in pairs and arrive at the church parking lot at their mutual convenience between 6 and 8 p.m. The only official task is to make sure the door to the portable toilet is unlocked. But the real purpose for a host visit is to make personal contact. Serving as a host would give you the opportunity to be a friendly visitor who is also the embodiment of our supportive congregation. For additional information - carcamp.rsvp@euuc.org.
This year EUUC opens its facilities to the Pacific NW UU Young Adult group for their annual summer retreat. The premises will be entirely devoted to this group and will not be available to EUUC members or friends. Thank you for sharing your space.
Considering the likelihood that any of us may observe an incident wherein someone is mistreated, abused or harassed by another, the need for this training may be stronger than ever. Goals for this training include: raising awareness of helping behaviors, increasing one's motivation to help, developing skills and confidence when responding to problems or concerns, and ensuring the safety and well-being of self and others. Please sign up for this workshop at the Social Justice desk.
After much discernment and discussion, the Board of Trustees has approved moving the Faith Development Classes to the early service starting with Ingathering Sunday, September 10. Toddler Care will still be available at both services. In order to ease the strain on the parking lot, and cause less confusion about our start times, the early service will start at 9 a.m. The late service will follow at 11 a.m.
We're holding an all-building cleanup on Saturday, September 2, to get our building spiffed up for the coming year. Vicki Roberts-Gassler and Craig Cyr are in charge. Please contact them with times that you can help. The overall time frame is 9:30 - 4:30. With a great turnout, each person will hopefully only spend a couple of hours of their time here.
