Once again, we are getting ready for our Holiday projects. A table will be in the narthex starting Sunday, November 12th, where you can sign up to help with these projects. One of our main activities is the South Snohomish County Toy Shop. Parents who are clients at the Lynnwood or Mountlake Terrace foodbanks will have the opportunity to come to the Toy Shop and pick out a gift for their child.
Babies of Homelessness is the Sunday Offering cause for the month of November. This local group was created to raise awareness of babies and toddlers who are the victims of homelessness and living in homeless encampments, cars and RVs or temporary shelters. There are many resources for school age children, but basic needs of younger children are often unmet. They are often hidden from society by parents who desperately need help but fear they could lose their children if Child Protective Services deems them unable to care for their children. The group provides “care” packages of diapers, baby food and clothing and delivers them wherever needed.
Social Concerns is discontinuing the collection of non-perishable food at EUUC. We thank all who have supported this effort in past years and encourage you to donate to area foods banks. Social Concerns will continue to provide support in other ways for those in our community who are in need of food, including growing fresh produce and gleaning fruit for area food banks and preparing and serving breakfast at the Neighbors in Need program on a monthly basis. A huge thank you to Mary Freundlich who has collected and taken the donated items to the food banks for many years.
Our new directory reported incorrect cell phone numbers for Pam and Greg. Call the office to get the correct ones and then note them in your directory. If you've not picked up your new directory yet, stop by the office to get one.
Once again EUUC is organizing teams to cover cold Monday nights at the Cold Weather Shelter from November 1st to March 31st. If you could help serve dinner, or stay overnight, or serve breakfast and help with cleanup, please sign up on our clipboard on the Social Justice bulletin board or email socialconcerns.rsvp@euuc.org.
